Whistle Design Group played a significant and hands‑on role throughout the development of the ONTAP ROAM™, collaborating with ONTAP from the earliest concept discussions through to the final stages of production. Beginning in early 2024, the team worked closely with ONTAP to define the product vision and map out what a next‑generation, off‑grid water system needed to deliver. This included deep involvement in early ideation, where we helped shape the goals of achieving high pressure, portability, and user‑friendly simplicity within a rugged design suitable for harsh outdoor conditions.

As the project progressed, we developed and iterated multiple prototypes to validate ergonomics, pump performance, and the modular tank system. These hands‑on cycles of testing allowed us to refine the design for real‑world use—whether mounted to a 4WD, stored in a van, or carried into a remote campsite. We then guided the design‑for‑manufacture process, refining mechanical systems, sealing strategies, internal architecture, and material selection to ensure ROAM could be produced reliably, consistently, and at scale. Beyond engineering and design, we also supported ONTAP in identifying suitable manufacturing partners with expertise in food‑grade materials and water‑resistant electronics, and we remained involved through tooling reviews and pre‑production refinement. Our end‑to‑end involvement helped ensure the ROAM™ launched as a robust, user‑centred, and adventure‑ready product built for life off the grid.
